If you suffer from irregular digestion, weight gain and high cholesterol, you could very possibly be fibre deficient. Many people still shy away from eating carbs because of the way media used to portray them. But some carbs, all fruits and all vegetables contain fibre and our bodies depend on fibre in order to function optimally.
What is fibre? A zero calorie carb that cannot be digested by the body.
Ok… strange. So if it contains NO energy that our body can make use of and our bodies can’t even digest it, what’s the point of eating fibre rich foods?
Well, there are 2 types of fibres: Soluble and Insoluble. Soluble fibre dissolves in water into a gel-like material and lowers levels of cholesterol and stabilises glucose levels. Perfect for diabetics. Insoluble promotes movement of material through our digestive tracts, improving digestion.
But the most magical thing about fibre and the reason why they don’t digest in our bodies is because they actually bind to toxins and help escort them out of the body. Fibre acts as a powerful detoxifier!
I created a delicious high fibre breakfast for us. Main ingredients being high in soluble fibre: apples and oatmeal.
Your body deserves an energy powered, nutritious and cleansing meal to start off the day.
1 Apple (any) chopped into squares
1/3 Cup rolled oats
1/2 Cup water / vegan milk of your choice (I used water for this recipe)
1 Tsp desiccated coconut
1 Tsp cinnamon
1 Tsp chia seeds
1 Tsp raw honey
Add all ingredients except honey into a pan and bring to the boil then turn down to simmer until water / vegan milk is completely cooked into the ingredients
Add honey to sweeten once meal is ready to serve
* You can also refrigerate this meal and keep it for the next day – it’s even better cold!
